For the first time ever, we are releasing archival footage beginning with our sold out production of Yerma by Federico Garcia Lorca from September 2024. In our committment to making theatre more inclusive, we are offering the footage for FREE below.
YERMA. ADJECTIVE: UNCULTIVATED, UNSOWN, UNTILLED, BARREN, WASTE
Desperate to begin a family in a land where a barren woman is a wasted woman, Yerma undertakes a journey of discovery only to find that she’s been rendered childless by a secret held deep within her husband’s heart - a secret that will condemn her to a life alone. Haunted by children and controlled by her husband, Yerma’s awakening ends in an unspeakable crime of passion and revenge. Set in contemporary society and told through the lens of an all female cast in its original language- Spanish, Caldera’s radical interpretation of this classic will take audiences to the brink.
This production features an all Hispanic ensemble bringing you Lorca’s masterpiece in its original language.

Note from the Director:
There is no other author more emblematic of the Hispanic dramaturgy than Federico Garcia Lorca. His work presents the working class in contrast to the expectations that society has put on them, representing every person, no matter their race or place of birth. For me, Yerma stands out as the portrait of a woman and her struggles when not conforming to the status quo.
Shockingly, right now women’s autonomy is in jeopardy, and with this in mind and almost by fate, we Foolishly dare to tell this story of a woman, by the hand of 6 women, using the original text and blurring the lines between reality and nightmares, because in the end, what’s the difference?
